On Thursday, Year 4 presented a marvellous Coffee Concert. It was a spectacular of piano playing with thirteen pupils performing pieces on the piano. As well as this, we were treated to two excellent duets; Milly and Julia singing ‘We’re off to see the Wizard’ and Gigi and Luisa performing ‘Two in a Boat’ on the violin. To top it off, we also got to hear a wonderful guitar performance from Olivia. Please see the programme here.
These concerts are a prime opportunity to witness the seven Cs + one that we value as a school in action:
The curiosity of the pupils listening to new pieces and watching each other play different instruments, trying to understand how they have achieved this standard of performance.
The collaboration between pupils preparing a performance together.
The communication with an accompanist during the performance and with the teacher to organise the performance.
The creativity required to create their own interpretation of a piece or even composing their own pieces.
The confidence to stand in front of an audience to perform.
The commitment to practising the piece over a long period of time and overcoming challenges in the process.
The craftsmanship of developing skills and improving gradually on their instrument.
The compassion expressed through music, as well as through supporting one another.
I am so proud of all of the girls who performed in this concert and look forward to seeing even more pupils perform in the upcoming Fanny Davies Music competition in March. I hope this concert sparked some inspiration in our pupil audience!
