Reception had a wonderful visit this week from Mrs Mirza and Mrs Aziz, who came to talk to us about the festival of Ramadan. They explained to us what fasting means, and why Muslims do it during this special month. They also told us how they prepare for the festival, such as by reading the Quran, praying, and helping others. We also learnt that Ramadan happens at different times each year, depending on the lunar calendar.
We then heard about the Eid al-Fitr celebrations at the end of Ramadan and how people celebrate by wearing new clothes, exchanging gifts, and visiting friends and family. Serena A and Sofia Iman were also excited to tell us that they eat a lot of delicious food, especially sweets during this celebration. Mrs Mirza and Mrs Aziz also brought some dates for us to try, which are a traditional food to break the fast with and were enjoyed by all.
That afternoon, we made some beautiful lanterns, which are a symbol of joy and light in Ramadan and Eid. We had so much fun making them and the girls took them home to decorate their houses.
We learnt so much and thoroughly enjoyed our lesson. A huge thank you to Mrs Mirza and Mrs Aziz for making it so special.
