Despite the bitter cold and post Christmas blues, the FHS community were once again steadfast in their excellent support for the Hammersmith and Fulham Foodbank.
This month it was the turn of the fabulously enthusiastic Year 6 pupils to receive the donations, which they did with fantastic maturity and good cheer (and warm gloves). Our community donated 395kg of food, toiletries and baby items, which will be 10% of all donations given out by the foodbank next week. Thank you for your kind and much needed donations. There were also three large bags of winter coats, which were gratefully received.
As well as our monthly collections in the playground, FHS pupils (and parents) have also been able to visit the foodbank warehouse on several occasions this academic year to volunteer as part of a ‘sorting session’. This Thursday I was particularly delighted to take along Y11 pupils Francesca, Millie, Maya-Suri, and Skye, all of whom gave up the possibility of a day off from school (following the completion of their mock exams) to come and volunteer for a full morning. Their phenomenal effort and determination during the session meant that they sorted over 25 huge boxes of donations (over 200kg) on their own. The regular volunteers were stunned with their energy and commitment.
Our next foodbank collection is on Tuesday 6th February, and our next visit (with Year 6) will be on Thursday 22nd February. Special thanks to Jo Hamlyn and Akiko Bianchi of the SSPA for their excellent organisation and management of this initiative.
