As always, the Junior School Morison Verse Competition was a showcase for the power of poetry. We were moved by powerful poems of resistance and strength. We laughed at wordplay and punchlines in poems designed to get a laugh. We bathed in the beauty of images created by poets such as D.H. Lawrence and Shelley. The ability to recite poetry, to bring its emotion and musicality to an audience is not an easy task, and our finalists (listed below) rose to the challenge with astounding prowess!

If you are interested in the art of memorising poetry, we recommend the book, ‘By Heart, 101 poems and how to remember them.’ In the introduction, the former laurate Ted Hughes teaches a system for memorising poems, that is used by scores of performers to this day.
