Over the last two weeks, our Year 4 girls put their geography and meteorology skills to the test as they embarked on an exciting fieldwork activity measuring the weather. Working in small groups, they used a variety of instruments to collect accurate data on the day’s atmospheric conditions, data we will work on in our next lessons!
With thermometers and stopwatches in hand, they carefully recorded the temperature, while digital anemometers helped them measure the wind speed. Using a weathervane and a compass, they determined the wind direction, and their keen observation skills were fantastic as they analysed cloud formations to estimate their height.
This hands-on approach not only deepened their understanding of weather patterns but also encouraged collaboration and critical thinking. By working together, the girls demonstrated the 7Cs + 1: confidence in using scientific equipment, curiosity about how weather changes, collaboration in their teams, communication of their findings, creativity in interpreting cloud types, commitment to accurate data collection, craftsmanship in recording their results neatly, and compassion in making sure everyone felt included and listened to in the teams.
A fantastic effort from all involved! Well done, Year 4!
