Year 5 and 6 were the third and final group to have their Forest School trip this term. Autumn had well and truly graced the forest floor with a sea of colourful leaves for the girls to run, play and be free in.
Girls split into respective year groups to engage in different Bushcraft sessions. First, Year 6 learnt about the essence of making fires focusing on the science behind creating sparks and eventually burning flames. Equipped with ‘ferro rods’ and different forms of fuel, girls then had to make their very own mini fires.
Year 5 were challenged with creating raised roof tipi shelters in order to keep them warm for the coming of winter. Encouraging freedom to think, collaboration and problem solving skills, the girls produced an exceptional array of shelters.
By learning the essential skills of fire making and shelter building, the girls gained confidence, fostered teamwork, and developed a deeper appreciation for Norbury Park. A brilliant day out for the Francis Holland Foresters!
