The Francis Holland Foresters enjoyed their first trip of the academic year on Thursday. It had been a while since the girls participated in a day of bushcraft and outdoor learning at Norbury Park. Many admitted they had missed their beloved Forest School days. For Year 1 and some of the girls in Year 2, this was their first trip to Norbury. As soon as the coaches dropped off at the edge of the woods, the girls immediately set about engaging in exciting activities for the day.

Year 1 studied the change in seasons and the essence of constructing a perfect bird nest. They also designed wonderful fairy wands linking to their class text, The Faraway Tree.

Year 2 built an array of mini shelters for baby Paddington Bears. They learnt about different types of shelters and the requirements for making a sturdy structure. They also learnt about the delicate nature of micro habitats which linked to their science lessons at school.

A special thank you must go to our two parent volunteers, Mr McIntosh and Mrs Chapman, who accompanied the trip. They both played an integral role of curating campfire hot chocolates and s’mores.

Mr Russell, Chief Forester
