As they near the end of their time in the Junior School, Year 6 embarked on a residential trip to a converted old military airbase named Little Canada on the Isle of Wight. The week-long excursion allowed the girls to embrace the spirit of adventure and step out of their comfort zones. The journey began with a scenic ferry ride from the mainland, where the girls buzzed with anticipation as they crossed the sea towards the Isle of Wight. Upon arriving at Little Canada, Year 6 were welcomed into cozy log cabins, which fostered a sense of camaraderie and independence. Each day brought a new set of challenges and activities that tested their limits and built their confidence.

A highlight activity was canoeing. Equipped with life jackets and paddles, the girls learned to navigate the water and coordinate as a team. Laughter echoed across the shore as they splashed and raced, mastering the art of paddling and steering.  Rock climbing provided a perfect opportunity for the girls to test their strength and determination. With safety harnesses and helmets, they scaled the climbing wall, each step a testament to their courage. Cheers and encouragement from their peers below spurred them on, celebrating every successful ascent. Jacob’s Ladder was even more of a challenge, as it required both teamwork and climbing skill, but our girls reached the top in their pairs impressively quickly. The trapeze, meanwhile, challenged them to leap off a platform and catch a bar mid-air: a true test of bravery. Having saved the best activities until last, the girls were excited to experience the giant swing and the zip wire on our last day. Harnessed up and ready to soar, girls zipped through the treetops, their initial nerves quickly replaced by exhilaration. The giant swing, a favourite among teachers and girls alike, saw them being hoisted high into the air before swinging back and forth, their screams of joy echoing through the camp.

Evenings at Little Canada were just as memorable. Gathered around crackling campfires, the girls roasted marshmallows, sang songs, and listened to the instructors telling stories. On our last evening, we celebrated with a disco and a talent show, which felt like the perfect finale. The ferry ride back to the mainland was filled with chatter and laughter, each girl reflecting on her favourite moments and newfound skills. As we returned to the Junior School, the girls carry with them the confidence and resilience gained from their incredible experience at Little Canada. It was truly a trip to remember.
